What is it like to work at Casting Words?
It can be a frustrating and discouraging experience when first starting to work at CastingWords.
When first starting out, there is not always a lot of work available. You can spend a lot of time refreshing the page where the jobs are listed, looking for jobs to show up.
You’ll be assigned badges. To do transcription work, you’ll need to have a New Transcriber badge. You also might be assigned a New Editor badge when you first start out, which allows you to work on editing files.
When first starting out, for editing jobs you’ll just be grading files and providing feedback.
CastingWords uses crowdsourcing to produce transcripts. This means that you’ll be transcribing and editing short chunks of audio files. From what I can see this ranges from one minute up to over 12 minutes.

what type of job you do.
the level you have reached.
what grade you have earned.
The higher your grade the more you get paid, anywhere from the base amount up to three times the base amount. For example, with a grade of 6, you get paid 1.5 times the base amount, and with a grade of 9, you get paid 3 times the base amount. Any grade lower than a 5 is a fail and you will not be paid for your work.
The higher quality of work that you do the higher level that you will reach over time. When you get up to a higher level you can transcribe expedited jobs that pay more.
Also, once you reach a higher level there will be more work available.
